About three times a year we set up a Bric-a-Brac store on the Market Place in Hitchin. This is a real fun event where we sell old collectables, crockery, cutlery, soft toys, games and other household items generously given by Rotarians and others to raise funds for projects like shelterbox, Light up a life, Young Carers, Youth speaks, and Kids Out.
There is also a book and old records store – fun to see the look on those born after 1990 who wonder how you listen to LP and why. It is also almost irresistible to look though the books and pick out old favourites and the picture books which bring back fond memories
We have raised over £1800 per year from these events and it is always fun to test your selling skills and persuade members of the public to buy an item and support the work of Rotary. Also if truth be known there is always a few items on sale which raise the question “what were they thinking?”
Most Rotarians take part in two hour slots during the day. We collect the items for the event and store at a garage in Hitchin
